Compare ablative and nonablative approaches, the recovery commitment and the questions that matter for your skin.
Resurfacing uses laser energy to address selected surface or texture concerns. Ablative approaches remove skin layers; nonablative approaches act without removing the outer layer in the same way. Fractional delivery treats portions of the skin. The exact device, settings and treatment depth matter more than a broad package name.
Ask the clinician to explain the intended change in ordinary language. A treatment for a scar is not interchangeable with one for vessels or unwanted hair. If your concern is pigment alone, establish the diagnosis before considering resurfacing.
Resurfacing can involve redness, swelling, discomfort, infection, pigment changes or scarring. Ablative treatment generally has a greater recovery burden than nonablative treatment. A personal history of cold sores, unusual scarring or previous treatment reactions may alter preparation or suitability.
Tell the clinician about medicines, recent procedures and sun exposure. Ask how they adapt treatment to your skin color. Darker skin needs particular attention to pigment risk; a device name by itself does not demonstrate that the proposed settings are appropriate.
Get written instructions for cleansing, prescribed products, sun protection and review. Ask when you can resume makeup, exercise and your normal skin-care routine. These instructions should apply to the actual procedure, not a generic clinic brochure. Confirm the clinic can assess a complication while you are still nearby.
For a brief Seoul trip, the most intensive available treatment may not fit your plans. Discuss a less intensive option, treatment closer to home or no procedure. Ask what the quoted price includes: anesthesia, dressings, medicines and follow-up can change the practical cost. Keep the treatment record for any clinician who later cares for your skin.
